How to Evaluate Your Novel by Yourself — Without Needing an Expert
Since you are here, it’s clear that you’ve already come a long way in the world of writing novels, so we’ll skip the basics — I won’t waste your time with any useless details.
So, how can you correctly evaluate the worth of your novel?
The Value of a Novel Depends on Three Main Points
-
How old the novel is
-
The size of its audience (followers/readers)
-
The income it generates
In addition to the platform it is published on and whether it has an active contract or not.
A Simple Formula to Estimate the Value
As an average estimate:
The value of your novel ≈ 12 × monthly profit + $1 for each real follower.
And if it has surpassed one full year of stability, its value can double.
Example
Let’s say you have a novel with:
-
1,000 followers
-
$500 monthly profit
-
1 year of stable performance
Then the estimated value would be:
(500 × 12) + (1,000 × 1) = $7,000,
and since it has passed one year of stability, it doubles to about $14,000 as an estimated price.
Can You Really Sell It for That Price?
The answer is: not exactly, but selling it for somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000 is not really that hard.
